This privacy policy explains how TriangleCarrot ("we", "us") handles information when you use the MemoLingo mobile app ("the app"). In short: MemoLingo has no accounts, your learning progress stays on your device, and we collect limited usage analytics to understand how the app is used and improve it.
Information stored on your device
MemoLingo saves your learning data locally on your device. This includes your chosen target language, progress, XP, streaks, review schedule, and which vocabulary packs you've unlocked. We don't receive it, and it isn't uploaded to any server we operate. Uninstalling the app deletes it.
Usage analytics
The app uses Google Analytics for Firebase, a service provided by Google, to collect usage and diagnostic information. This helps us see which features and vocabulary packs are used and where the app can be improved. The information collected includes:
- In-app events, such as screens viewed, finishing onboarding, starting and completing a game (pack, target language, score, and combo), and which pack was purchased
- An app-instance identifier generated by Firebase
- Device and app information, such as device model, operating system version, app version, and language settings
- Approximate location (country or region), which Google derives from your IP address
- Session information, such as when the app was first opened and how long it's used
We don't collect your name, email address, contacts, photos, or precise location. MemoLingo doesn't use your device's advertising identifier, and it doesn't track you across other companies' apps or websites.
Google processes this information under its own terms. To learn more, see Google's Privacy Policy and how Google uses information from apps that use its services.
Purchases
Vocabulary packs are sold through the Apple App Store or Google Play. Payment is handled entirely by Apple or Google, so we never see or store your payment details. The app receives only a confirmation that a purchase was made, so it can unlock the pack and restore it later.
Text-to-speech
Pronunciation audio is generated by your device's built-in speech engine. The app doesn't record or access your microphone.
How we use information
We use the information described above only to:
- Run the app and unlock your purchased content
- Understand how the app is used and find problems
- Improve features and plan new content
We don't sell your information or use it for advertising.
Legal basis (UK and EEA users)
Where UK or EU data protection law applies, we process analytics data based on our legitimate interest in maintaining and improving the app. Purchase processing is needed to provide the content you've bought.
Data retention
Data on your device stays there until you uninstall the app. Analytics data is kept by Google for a limited period, set in our Firebase settings, and is then automatically deleted. We use it only in aggregated reports.
Your choices and rights
You can delete all locally stored data at any time by uninstalling the app. Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, or delete personal information about you, or to object to its processing. To make a request, email us at the address below. Because MemoLingo has no accounts, analytics data isn't linked to your name or email, so we may not be able to identify data that belongs to you. We'll still do our best to help.
If you're in the UK or EEA, you also have the right to complain to your local data protection authority. In the UK, that's the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO).
Children
MemoLingo isn't designed to collect personal information from children, and we don't knowingly do so. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we'll take steps to delete it.
Security
Data sent to Google Analytics for Firebase is encrypted in transit. No method of storage or transmission is completely secure, but we limit what we collect to reduce risk.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time, for example when the app changes. Any changes will be posted on this page with a new "Last updated" date.
